First and foremost let me start this article by saying that I am not trying to be sexist by using some of these jobs in a category for men. Yes, women are more than capable of doing some of these jobs if not all of them, however they are predominately male dominated and therefore work for the sake of my article. Now to my second disclaimer, I am not discouraging anyone from not getting a degree. In our ever changing society there is still a high importance of obtaining a degree. However, the purpose of this article is for those who understand that school may not be in their cards and they need a different option. These careers can help you in life especially if they allow you to follow your dreams.
Firefighter
Did you grow up as a little boy and race your fire truck around the room telling everyone that one day you would be a firefighter? When you are a firefighter you are able to be people’s hero and be up close in the action. The heroism comes with a price however, because every day you will risk your life saving someone else’s life. Oh, and don’t think that you completely get out of going to school with this one. Get ready to enjoy the grueling firefighter training school that makes sure you are ready for anything thrown at you.
Police Officer
So maybe a Firefighter wasn’t your dream, what about a cop. This is usually another favorite for little boys. As a Police Officer you get to protect the world from all the evil out there. Like a firefighter, you will risk your life everyday you have on your uniform while you are protecting the innocent. Again, expect to need some training and some jurisdictions require that you have an associate’s degree in criminal justice. Don’t worry though, there are lots of online degree programs that you can obtain this through.
Mechanic, Repair Man, Plumber
Are you good with fixing things and know your way with tools? Then these options might benefit you in the long run. Some high schools even offer alternate schooling in these areas so that you are trained by the time you graduate. If you decide after a while to go into business for yourself then you can further your education and get a business degree and make your own business become your dream. The possibilities are endless here. People will always need things fixed or their cars worked on.
Salesman
Do you have a charming personality and the ability to convince people to do just about anything? Then being a salesman may be right for you. There are different avenues that you can discover in sales. Many jobs offer commission and some even offer a salary on top of that. Again, the possibilities are endless here and if you are lucky you can sale a product that you love.
All of these are options that allow you to start your career before getting a higher education. The option to go back to school is now there for people who feel better about attending an online school, if you decide later to expand your horizons.
